Is Abortion or Adoption Right for Me?

No one can legally force you to make one decision over another. Only you know what is best for you and your future. Both are life-altering decisions. It is best to learn as much about abortion and adoption as possible to make a confident, empowered choice.

Have You Verified Your Pregnancy First?

That may seem like a silly question, but verifying your pregnancy takes more than a dollar pregnancy test. At A New Generation, we provide laboratory-quality pregnancy tests for free.

If you receive a positive result from one of our tests, a nurse may recommend you for a free ultrasound. Why do you need an ultrasound?

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) estimates that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. A positive pregnancy test result is possible even though you have already miscarried.

Ultrasound detects if your pregnancy is still growing or if you have miscarried. In addition, it reveals if your pregnancy is in the correct location and how far along you are.

What do I Need to Know About Abortion?

Abortion is the termination of an existing pregnancy. If you are considering abortion, get a Pre-Abortion Screening at A New Generation first. A nurse administers your tests and discusses the various abortion procedures, side effects, and potential risks.

The FDA has approved the abortion pill method (a medical abortion) through 10 weeks of gestation (70 days or less since the first day of your last menstrual period). You must know exactly how far along you are in your pregnancy. The FDA does not recommend buying the drugs for this method online for safety reasons.

Incomplete abortion, heavy and prolonged bleeding, and infection are some risks the Mayo Clinic lists with a medical abortion. If you are past the 10-week cut-off, you may need a surgical abortion.

As of the publication date of this article, abortion in Florida is allowed through 15 weeks and 6 days. The Heartbeat Protection Act would limit abortions to six weeks when a heartbeat usually is detected.

What do I Need to Know About Abortion?

Adoption is choosing to entrust your child to another family. It is the legal termination of the parental rights and responsibilities of the birth parents, which are then given to the adoptive parents.

A birth mother can receive financial assistance with pregnancy-related expenses by working with a reputable adoption agency or attorney. Expenses may include rent, utilities, food, maternity clothing, and medical costs.

Changing your mind at any time during the adoption planning is possible, and you cannot agree to the adoption until a minimum of 48 hours after your child’s birth.

An Open Adoption Plan gives the birth parents a chance to choose the future they want for their child. By selecting the potential adoptive parents, they are assured their child will be safe, loved, and nurtured. Open adoption also provides opportunities for ongoing communication with their child and family.

Which Should I Choose?

Neither of these options is easy to select. They both involve emotional loss. The medical staff at A New Generation can help you determine your next best step. Both abortion and making an adoption plan require a strong support network, and we are here for you.

Although we do not refer you for abortion, we can refer you to reputable adoption agencies that can explain the process in greater detail. Book an appointment to meet with our medical professionals and talk with a client advocate. At A New Generation, we promise you will be seen, heard, and valued.
